This sunset Arizona Elopement at the Mogollon Rim is rad inspiration for adventerous couples who want a little desert, a little forest, and a *big* cliff.

Dreamy Mogollon Rim Wedding

I’ve mentioned before that Arizona has a way more diverse landscape that most people give it credit for. The huge sprawling Ponderosa Pine forest north of Phoenix is one of my favorite hidden gems. Especially because its home to the Mogollon Rim.

Truth time: Though I love Arizona and her funky cacti and stark landscapes. sometimes I get a liiiittle jealous of the amazing cliffs I see in other places (I’m looking at you, Yosemite). And I guess it’s not really fair to compare the two, or really compare Arizona to anywhere else, really. Is it Mt. Rainer in the summer? The Cascades? The PNW Coast? Yosemite?

No. No no no.

But I suppose it’s not really fair to compare any of those things to each other. They’re apples and oranges. And I love the desert precisely *because* it is so different from all those places. But sometimes, I just long for a big ass cliff.

Enter, the Mogollon Rim. The perfect spot for an adventure wedding.

I had no idea about this crazy geological feature for an embarrassingly long time. Only when I camped for my *most recent* birthday (and drove the rocky and off-road friendly Rim Road) did I first see it. And I *loved it*. We camped right on the edge of the rim and it is was beautiful and adventurey and I *needed* to photograph a couple there because making my husband stand sullenly in pretty light was simply not cutting it.

Which is why I jumped at the chance to photograph a styled Mogollon Rim Wedding there. Jen and Tom were a blast to spend time with, totally down for whatever adventure was thrown at them. Wander through the woods? Sure! Sit on the edge of a cliff? No problem!

Sunset Mogollon Rim Wedding

The sunset was freaking incredible with the sky going purple, pink, orange and gold, and the tiny headlights of the cars below looked like stars on a winding river. The trees towered overhead and it was just… the best day.

So don’t overlook the Mogollon Rim if you’re looking for a rad place for your Arizona Elopement. Or even if you’re just looking to stand on the edge of a big ass cliff 🙂

  11. […] If standing on the edge of the earth is your thing, the Mogollon Rim is for you. Also there are a lot of trees and some SUPER gorgeous lakes. Parts of the Rim can be pretty busy (popular spot for Phoenicians to escape the heat) but there are parts that are super, super quiet and private. The rocky road getting up there can be pretty fun too ☺ Lots of camping (some literally on the cliffs edge), fishing, hiking, and soaking in the amazing views. For more Mogollon Rim inspiration, check out this adventure engagement session or this cliffside elopement shoot.
