Vogue Wakanda Adventure Maternity Session

I remember sitting across the table from Drew and Angelica as they told me to brace myself for their vision for their adventure maternity session. I remember being a little nervous. Brace myself? Oh, lord. But then they said the most magical words. “Editorial Vogue Wakanda” And I about fell out of my chair. Vogue Wakanda?!?! Yes!!!

(probably as good a time as any; if you are unsure about what this is referencing, highly HIGHLY recommend the Marvel movie Black Panther.)

Have I mentioned I’m a huge nerd?  Because I am a huge, huge nerd. I love anything Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Star Wars, Game of Thrones, Dungeons and Dragons (I love it, don’t judge me), and yes, anything Marvel. So this information was EXTREMELY EXCITING and also I knew what they meant immediately when they said it. Editorial Vogue Wakanda, yes, or course. Let’s do it.

Angelica was 7 months pregnant at the time so going on a crazy long hike in midst of Phoenix in August was not really in the cards, so we took to South Mountain at dawn. I am a huge sucker for sunrise sessions because the light is incredible and you very typically have the place to yourself. Such was the case with our Vogue Wakanda Adventure maternity session. The weather was quite tolerable (which is high praise for Phoenix in August) and the views amazing.

We hopped around to various places as the sun slowly went up and the landscape around us changed. Angelica and Drew were in from Chicago and fairly unfamiliar with the desert so watching them look around in awe was a treat for me. I never get tired of this place, but it’s sooo fun to watch others really see the desert for the first time.

I also want to say that Drew and Angelica are two of the most wonderful humans around. It was so fun hanging out with them during and after the shoot. They trusted me with their vision and, to be honest, we were all pretty stoked with the results.

Congrats, you two. Can’t imagine better parents!
